In Ariankuppam, Tamil Nadu, the 2 women of the Bharatha Matha Magalir SHG have been making handcrafted jewelry for over 8 years.

They started the SHG as a way to provide supplementary income to the household during difficult times, both of them doing their part to pitch into the finances of their respective households.

They never expected to be able to sell their jewelry in the metropolitans across India, but the bright colors and detailed work on their bijouterie attracted the attention of women all across the country.

Things had finally started to look up for the women and their families with them finally finding some comfort in their daily lifestyle through the sale of their jewelry.

But that was before COVID-19.

Currently, things are looking bleak for them. They have no funds to further manufacture products and nowhere to sell the few they have left. The hope that they once had is slowly starting to fade away again. They are plagued not just by the fear of catching the Coronavirus, but also by the uncertainty their financial future holds.
